I miss the days when, no matter how slow your internet was, if you paused any video and let it buffer long enough, you could watch it uninterrupted
If you use Firefox, you can go to the about:config page, search for “media.mediasource.enabled” and double click on it to set it to false. After you restart Firefox, all youtube videos will load entirely even when paused! This also affects other streaming websites :)

go to About:config find media.mediasource.enabled and toggle it to false find media.cache_readahead_limit and change it to 9999 find media.cache_resume_threshold and change it to 9999

also in about:config, find: media.encoder.webm.enabled media.mediasource.webm.audio.enabled media.mediasource.webm.enabled media.webm.enabled and toggle them all to false

i do think it’s interesting that in less than a decade after reviving both the jurassic park movies and star wars franchises, universal and disney, respectively, have fucked up what could have been never-ending theatrical cash cows to the point where the jurassic franchise is ending in critical disgrace and star wars has been relegated almost exclusively to disney’s streaming platform. how badly do you have to fumble bags that are mostly just “people and aliens in a far off galaxy and space” and “dinosaurs! what would happen if dinosaurs?” that the franchises became so devoid of any redeemable value that people are eh about seeing a cultural icon like darth vader wield his lightsaber or a website like rotten tomatoes, which grades on a heavy curve, especially for nostalgic projects, has your film at a 37% critical favorability and is being accused of making dinosaurs “uncool”. it’s fascinating. i hope the bubble bursts for marvel next.

Holy shit I think I just cracked the code of why people think you can’t sell things on Tumblr 😭
I was reading one of the Substacks I subscribe to, talking about how they promote their publication and their various sources of traffic, when I came across this paragraph:
Now I happen to also run a fairly popular Substack (about gay vampires). One whose readers are almost entirely Tumblr users. And Tumblr clicks have just never shown up in my stats, I’m used to it. Naturally I had to comment:
It’s not just Substack’s tracking that doesn’t work on here. NO tracking works on here. Tumblr is just one of the last platforms left that completely obscures its users’ data!
That’s why there’s this persistent myth that you can’t advertise on Tumblr. It’s not that you can’t sell things here, it’s that you can’t use the invasive methods that are standard everywhere else.
I can’t wrap my head around why Tumblr’s self-promo is all about Goncharov and dashboard crabs and not THIS! My god, their website on its last legs and this - this thing which is purely for the benefit of all their users - is certainly hurting their revenue. They aren’t patting themselves on the back for not selling us out? Not even a little?

Not oblivious at all! (positive, about to excited infodump) Biff knew something was up the minute he entered the room, but also that his humans were happy and excited. After a thorough sniff of the toy near the door, he made a beeline for where she was hiding without making it look like he was pursuing or hunting her. When he gets around the couch, he looks right at her, but shows no surprise or tension, just that friendly, gentle curiosity. He then IMMEDIATELY breaks eye contact, turns partly away (but not fully so she can still see his face) and starts sniffing the toys, and then again doesn’t show any signs of surprise or tension that might get misread as aggression.
That’s not an oblivious dog. That’s a dog who knows that his humans are happy and excited and that the room smells like puppy, recognizes that the puppy is clearly supposed to be there, and is on his best “reassure the puppy that he is friendly and nonthreatening” behavior. That is a dog who is actively being careful not to scare her and is inviting Ducky to come out and say hi and maybe interact at her own pace.
In short, that is Biff being SUCH A GOOD BOY. BESTEST BOY. SWEETEST BIG BRO. GOOD DOGGO. 😭
